Bhronn Oireachtas na Gaeilge gradam Bhuaic-Shaothar Próis na Bliana ar Na Cócha Móra. Bhí an méid seo le rá ag na moltóirí:

‘Thaitin an t-úrscéal thar barr liom agus ba dheacair liom é a chur díom go dtí go raibh sé críochnaithe agam. Teanga líofa shaoráideach agus saibhreas neamhghnách foclóra in úsáid ag an údar. Scéal coscrach Bharra Mhic Aodhagáin a nochtar dúinn, gasúr a chaith seal i scoil tionsclaíochta agus a d’fhulaing gach ainide níos measa ná a chéile ó roinnt de na bráithre a bhí ag reáchtáil na scoile. Má tá an bhéim ar an mbrúidiúlacht sa chéad leath den leabhar, leanann an léitheoir bóthar anróiteach Bharra i dtreo an chneasaithe agus an téarnaimh. Ach d’ainneoin na n-aingeal coimhdeachta a chasann air i mbun a oilithreachta chun lámh chúnta a thabhairt dó, ní féidir leis éalú ó thromluí na mblianta a chaith sé i ngéibheann. Fiú agus é ina fhear gnó rachmasach agus caoifeach mánla pósta aige, ní féidir na taibhsí a dhíbirt, agus filleann siad air nuair is lú a bhfuil coinne aige leo chun é a chéasadh as an nua!

Oireachtas na Gaeilge awarded the Best Prose of the Year award to Na Cócha Móra. The judges commented:

‘I really liked the novel and found it hard to put it off until I had finished it. Easy to use fluent language and an unusual wealth of vocabulary used by the author. The harrowing story of Barra Mac Aodhagáin is revealed to us, a boy who spent some time in an industrial school and who suffered the worst of all the ailments from some of the brothers who ran the school. If the emphasis is on brutality in the first half of the book, the reader follows Barra ‘s arduous path to healing and recovery. But despite the escorting angels who turn to him in his pilgrimage to help him, he cannot escape the nightmare of his years in captivity. Even as a wealthy businessman and a married man’s witch, the ghosts cannot be banished, and they return to him when he least expects them to torture him anew!
