Mánas Ó Colla is coming to the end of school in south Armagh in the early 1970s. He had always been interested in history, and had often heard his great-grandfather talk about being locked up in a prison ship fifty years earlier. In addition, Mánas is hearing every day about events in the North – internment, torture, Bloody Sunday and more.

Mánas himself is captured when an army patrol prevents players from traveling to a football game. There is now a growing desire for freedom, a desire to continue the pursuit of heroes. At a training camp he learns about weapon handling and the history of conflict. He soon joins himself in a military attack.
