Until 1985, the name and singing of Dara Bán were known only to his immediate neighbours in Carna. Discovered by Raidió na Gaeltachta, he was immediately recognized as one of the truly great singers of our time. Dara Bán Mac Donnchadha comes from An Aird Thoir in Carna, Conamara. Since first appearing at An tOireachtas over ten years ago he has guested at many concerts and sean-nós singing gatherings, and has been widely acclaimed as one of the best and most traditional of contemporary sean-nós exponents. Songs on this, his first album, include An Abhainn Mhór, Róisín Dubh, Mná Bhaile Locha Riach and Neainsín Bhán.
