Editor, with Declan Kiberd, and principal translator of An Crann Faoi Bhláth/The Flowering Tree (contemporary poetry in Irish with verse translations), of Irish Poetry Now: Other Voices and of An Bealach ‘na Bhaile/Homecoming (Selected Poems of Cathal Ó Searcaigh), Fitzmaurice is regarded as one of the best translators into English of poetry as Gaeilge. Poems I Wish I’d Written gathers his favourite translations from the above anthologies together with new translations of Cathal Buí Mac Giolla Ghunna and Raifteirí and includes his much admired translation of ‘An Phurgóid’ by Micheál ÓHairtnéide (Michael Hartnett) together with translations of Máirtín ÓDireáin, Seán ÓRíordáin, Máire Mhac an tSaoi, Caitlín Maude, Áine Ní Ghlinn, Michael Davitt, Gabriel Rosenstock and others.
