Léas ar an Astráil
Tomás de Paor
An Clóchomhar 1989

121 lth.

Beirt iníon leis a bheith pósta san Astráil faoi deara do Thomás de Paor sé thuras a thabhairt ar an tír sin le trí bliana déag. Sa leabhar seo tugann sé cuntas dúinn ar chuid de ghnéithe na hAstráile a chuaigh I bhfeidhm air – eallach agus éin, gnéithe nádúrtha, cúrsaí polaitíochta.
Tá trácht aige ar chuid de na hÉireannaigh Astrálacha ba mhó le rá le céad go leith bliain anuas agus ar dhaoránaigh a ionnarbadh as Éirinn agus ar an íde a tugadh dóibh san Astráil. Cuntas anseo chomh maith, ar ‘The Wild Colonial Boy’ agus ar scéal Ned Uí Cheallaigh, agus ceithearnach coille ba cháiliúla díobh go léir. Stíl éasca nádúrtha ag an údar a chuireann le taitneamh an leabhair.

Inside of thirteen years Tomás de Paor made six trips to Australia, visiting his two daughters who were married there. In this book he describes and gives an account of nature and politics in Australia as well as an account of the natural life of animals and birds.

He also writes of the most famous Irish Australian convicts and exiles of the last one hundred and fifty years. Here as well is an account of Ned Kelly and the Wild Colonial Boy.
Written in a natural easy style.
Very readable.
