An in-depth study of the use of Irish in the official West Kerry Gaeltacht from the foundation of the State.     This report is based on interviews conducted in 1983 with 150 adults resident in the area. Social and spatial variations in bilingual patterns since 1926 are described in detail and related to the extensive socio-economic transformations that occurred in the area in the 60 years between 1926 and 1986.
