The new Historical Dictionary of Gaelic Placenames, prepared by the Locus Project in the Department of Early and Medieval Irish at University College Cork, is the first of its kind to appear for almost 100 years.
Volumes devoted to names beginning with the various letters of the alphabet will be published at regular intervals. For ease of consultation, all names are recorded in their early modern forms, and accompanying each volume is an index of anglicised forms of the Gaelic names.
