This book is based on interviews Fiona Crowe conducted with the last child born on the Great Blasket, before the island was evacuated in 1953. Gearóid Cheaist Ó Catháin’s memories of his childhood on the island will add significantly to the store of Blasket literature and ethnology preserved in other collections and publications, in which the Department of Modern Irish, UCC has had a strong and unique research-interest over the years.
