D’fhéadfaí a mheas gur rud neamhghnách é obair ealaíne agus filíocht a bheith ‘pósta’ le chéile mar atá sa leabhar seo. Is ea, leis. An té a dhéanfadh a mhachnamh air, áfach, chífeadh sé go gcuireann ceann acu leis an gceann eile. Ní hiontas é sin, mar is filíocht í a d’fhás as an obair ealaíne agus ba í an obair ealaíne a thug inspioráid don fhilíocht. Léiríonn an toradh conas mar a oibríonn saothar cumhachtach ealaíne ar aigne file.

Requiem, an exhibition of paintings and installations by artist Eoin Mac Lochlainn was held in Kilmainham Gaol during the summer of 2005. The works were installed in 24 cells in the East Wing of the Gaol – to be viewed only through the guard’s spy holes. It was an exploration of issues of identity, idealism and ‘terror’ in the context of the 21st century. It was also an attempt to come to terms with a turbulent past and to begin a process of healing.

While working on this project, Mac Lochlainn met with the poet, Ciarán Ó Coigligh and invited him to respond to the work in poetic form. Aiséirí, a magnificent suite of poems, was the result of this collaboration and they were first presented to the public at the official opening of the art exhibition on the 25th of April 2005
