Baile in Scáil “The Phantom’s Frenzy” (henceforth BS) is an important and intriguing medieval Irish text which purports to be a prophecy recite by an Otherworld phantom in the presence of Conn Cétchathach, king of Tara, detailing all the future kings of Tara that would descend from him. Thus, it is a significant text in the areas of history, mythology and literature. As will become evident later, the main thrust of the tale seems to be the assertion of the rights of the Uí Néill to the kingship of Tara.
