Sna cúig imleabhar dá mhórshaothar Periphyseon (Mar Gheall ar Nádúir) chuir Iohannes Scottus Eriugena (c. 810-875) cuntas ciclipéideach le chéile ar gach dá bhfuil ann: dúile dofheicthe na fisice, mionstruchtúir anatamaíochta na colainne, feidhmiú na gcéadfaí, struchtúr na hintinne, iompar an duine, rothlú na spéartha, ordlathas an n-aingeal, agus an diacht. Scáthán is ea an dúlra, a dúirt sé, ina bhfeictear íomhá den intinn, agus scáthán is ea an intinn ina bhfeictear íomhá de Dhia. Tá an scéal ar fad inste anseo ag Eoghan Mac Aogáin bunaithe ar aistriúcháin atá déanta aige ar shraith de théacsanna le Iohannes agus leis na húdair is mó a chuaigh i bhfeidhm air: agus Maximus an Coinfeasóir, agus an t-oideachasóír Rómhánach Martianus Capella.
In the five volumes of the great works of Periphyseon (About Nature) Iohannes Scottus Eriugena gave an encyclopaedic account of everything there is, unseen nature of physics, the detailed structure of the body, how the senses work, structure of the mind, human behaviour, rotation of the universe, hierarchy of the angels and theology. He said nature is a mirror  where an image of the mind can be seen, and the mind is a mirror where an image of God can be seen. The whole story is told here by Eoghan Mac Aogáin based on a translation he made of a series of lectures about Johannes and the authors who most moved him, Maximus the Confessor and the roman educationalist Martianus Capella.
