Dingle Down the Years
Tom Fox
ISBN 0952827832
Holy Stone Publications
192 lth.
Written in English
This is the third collection of old photographs of Dingle town compiled by Tom Fox. A new collection of 250 illustrations, it charts 75 years of Dingle life, beginning with a photograph of Jim Ashe from Kinard taken in California in 1896.
Photographs of people abound in the book, standing in their doorways or gathered on street corners, or out in their favourite haunts by the lighthouse and the broken bridge at Milltown. Historic photographs of the Volunteers, nostalgic scenes from the 1930s, images of transport from days gone by, local sports and pastimes are all included. And Dingle Down the Years pictures the town in the 1960s, when Dingle was beginning to forge a new kind of future.
An introduction by Tom Hickey takes us through times as they used to be and sets the scene for the photographs which follow. The story of Pedlar's Lake by Tom Finn will be of interest to all locals and visitors who visit this beautiful spot and wonder how it got its name
