An tOileán Aerach
Traditional Irish music played on the Melodeon
As Inis Bearacháin do Johnny Connolly ó dhúchas ach tá cónaí anois air in Indreabhán Conamara. Tá an-mheas air mar cheoltóir bosca agus is iomaí port atá casta aige le ceoltóirí ar fud na hÉireann agus thar lear. Chas sé ar an mileoidean den chéad uair ag Féile Idirnáisiúnta Lorient sa Bhriotáin agus is as sin a tháinig an spreagadh chun taifeadadh iomlán a dhéanamh leis ar an mileoidean. Áirtear Johnny ar dhuine de na boscadóirí ab fhearr riamh.
‘An tOileán Aerach’ is a very unique recording and the only one of its kind. It features Johnny Connolly, one of the only performing melodeon players in Ireland today. The melodeon is a one rowed accordion that was popular in rural areas at the turn of the last century. Since then it has given way to the more versatile two-rowed button accordion. This CD constitutes a sort of revival in melodeon playing and will be of interest to traditional musicians everywhere. Johnny’s rhythm is flawless and controlled, and his love for the music is bery evident in his hearty and vivacious playing.
