Ag Déanamh Ceoil is a practical approach to playing music at national school level. The emphasis is on getting the pupil to play a simple tune as quickly as possible thus giving a great sense of satisfaction and confidence about playing. Tunes are graded to suit both the complete beginner and the improver. They are written in simple lettered notation, with finger numbers provided for the tin whistle and keyboards, The symbols used are similar to staff notation, and introduce the concept of note values. The notation can also be used for playing tunes on other instruments, and the chords provided in the keyboard section will be of particular use to guitar or piano players. A section on Staff Notation is also included.
