This is the first translation into Spanish of Lament for the Death of Art Ó Laoire (Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire ),the most prominent poem written in eighteenth century Irish Gaelic.The text masterfully recounts the murder in 1773, on a site located northeast of the city of Cork,of Art Ó Laoire (Ó Laoghaire ),an aristocrat belonging to one of the oldest families in Ireland. Tradition tells us that his widow, Eibhlín Dubh, composed this heartbreaking tribute. This bilingual edition in Spanish and Irish includes an introduction, along with extensive notes in Spanish,that will allow readers to appreciate the cultural and historical environment of the poem.
Esta es la primera traducción al español que se ha hecho del Lamento por la muerte de Art Ó Laoire (Caoineadh Airt Uí Laoghaire), el poema escrito en gaélico irlandés más destacado del siglo XVIII. Concebido como un lamento para ser declamado en público, ofrece profundos sentimientos, una perfecta técnica literaria y una métrica variada, que sustentan poderosas imágenes presentadas en cinco partes. El texto relata magistralmente el asesinato en 1773, en un paraje situado al nordeste de la ciudad de Cork, de Art Ó Laoire (Ó Laoghaire), un aristócrata perteneciente a una de las familias más antiguas de la isla. La tradición nos dice que su viuda, Eibhlín Dubh, compuso este homenaje desgarrador a su marido.Una introducción bilingüe en español e irlandés, junto con amplias notas en español, permitirá a los lectores apreciar el entorno cultural e histórico del poema.
