Pádraig Ó Maolchraoibhe was a Spanish teacher who has, to date, spent 9 or 10 years in Spanish – speaking countries (3 and a half years in Ecuador). He learned a certain amount of Kichwa, traveled all over the country (24 provinces), married a woman in it, and set out to understand and represent a very different society to the society of his own country.
