Is fairsing an t-ábhar atá ar fáil i dtraidisiún béil na Gaeltachta. Is iad na hamhráin, b’fhéidir is mó
atá i mbéal an phobail ar na saolta seo, ach tá réimse leathan véarsaíochta eile ann nach gcloistear
go minic. Rogha den ábhar sin atá curtha i láthair in Aniar: dánta a chuirfidh ag smaoineamh tú,
orthaí a leigheasfaidh tú, tairngreachtaí a chuirfidh síos ar an saol atá romhat. Tugann Tadhg
Mac Dhonnagáin cur síos dátheangach ar chúlra gach píosa, chomh maith le leagan Béarla den
bhunábhar. Cloistear aisteoirí Conamaracha ag aithrís na bpíosaí ar an dlúthdhiosca, le tionlacan
nuachumtha ceoil ón gcumadóir John Ryan. Déanann íomhánna Ceara Conway léiriú breise físiúil
ar an iomlán.
Aniar, meaning from the West, is a treasure trove of traditional verse, incantation, prophesy and
proverb, a lively selection from the seemingly bottomless well of the Conamara oral tradition. Each
piece is reinterpreted in words, by Tadhg Mac Dhonnagáin’s translations and bilingual background
notes; visually, by Ceara Conway’s inventive photographs and in sound, by the performance
of three of Conamara’s finest voices, framed by John Ryan’s original music and adventurous
production. At times a window on our pre-Christian past, at times a prescient description of 21st
century woes, Aniar is a truly engaging collection of voices and verse from the edge of the world.
