Dance music from one of Ireland’s greatest melodeon-players
Ó eisíodh a chéad dlúthdhiosca i 1991 tá ainm agus ceol Johnny Connolly go mór i mbéal an phobail. Níl aon amhras ach gurb é Johnny Rí an Mhileoidin – ní hamháin i gConamara, ach ar fud na hÉireann agus i measc lucht seinnte an cheoil Ghaelaigh ar fud na cruinne. Tá a chuid ceoil chomh haerach aigeanta le druid, ach fós chomh binn leis an chuach; tá rithim fíorláidir agus rialta ann, ach tá a chuid seanma fós lán croí agus anama.
Thar aon ní eile, áfach, tá nádúr fíordhúchasach i gceol ‘Johnny na gConnollys’, an traidisiún go smior ann. Ná bíodh sé le rá nach bhfuil cóip den dlúthdhiosca fíorthábhachtach seo i do sheilbh agat!
Since the release of his debut album in 1991,’An tOileán Aerach’, the name and music of Connemara’s Johnny Connolly has travelled far and wide; There is no doubt but that Johnny is King of the Melodeon – not only in Connemara, but throughout Ireland, and indeed amongst traditional Irish musicians worldwide. His melodeon-playing is lively and energetic, yet ever sweet; extraordinarily rhythmic, yet never monotonous. Commentators have consistently and repeatedly wondered at the sheer depth of tradition displayed in his music; in his versions of tunes, in his unique variations, in his tasty use of ornamentation and indeed in every aspect of his distinct, stylish and compelling box-playing.
Accompanied here by renowned Kerry-Australian guitarist, Steve Cooney, and legendary Irish pianist and fiddler, Charlie Lennon, ‘Johnny na gConnollys’ long-awaited second CD is a must for all serious traditional music fans!
